He spoke at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
Kazaure, represented by Mrs. Nnenna Ukonu, Director, NYSC Corps Mobilisation Department, lamented the number of deaths during travels in recent years.
“We have lost several corps members through unnecessary travelling as you should realise that your families are not running away and would be there for you after your service year,” she said.

2019 UTME: JAMB Speaks On invigilators Stopping Hijab-Wearing Students

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has reacted to allegations that some hijab wearing students were denied entry into the examination hall by its invigilators and supervisors.
DAILY POST had gathered that a daughter of a former ace broadcaster, Sulaiman Aledeh, was among several hijab-wearing female students who were denied entry at a JAMB examination center in Lagos on Thursday.
But reacting, JAMB in a statement on its official Twitter page
maintained that its rule does not prevent female candidates from wearing hijab or other dresses that defines their faith.
The body, however, said if truly the incident occurred ‘it must have been the result of an over zealous security agent.’
The Statement reads, ”The attention of the Board was drawn to a story making rounds on social media about an incident concerning a candidate that was allegedly asked to remove her hijab before entering the examination hall.
”The Board would like to state clearly that our rule does not prevent female candidates from wearing hijab or other dresses that defines their faith.
”We would continue to ensure that people exercise their freedom of religion even with the conduct of our examination so far it doesn’t compromise the sanctity of our examination.
”However, at every centre 2 security operatives (one male and one female) are on ground to screen candidates with dignity and respect. All officials were duly briefed on how to.
”This incident must have been the result of an over zealous security agent( if at all it happened) and not aimed at disrespecting the candidate’s religion.”

UTME: Prof Arrested in Abuja For Aiding Daughter To Cheat

A self-acclaimed professor, identified only as Jide, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, after he was caught assisting his daughter during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board confirmed Jide’s arrest on Thursday, which was the first day of the UTME, noting that the man sneaked into a Computer-Based Test centre in Jabi but he was later arrested by operatives and was now in custody.
Our correspondent learnt that Jide was arrested at the Brix Academy CBT Centre in Jabi while the UTME was on, trying to assist his daughter in the examination.
The JAMB Head of Information and Public Affairs, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in an interview with our correspondent, said the NSCDC would go on with Jide’s prosecution at the end of its investigations.
He said, “In Brix Academy in Jabi, a man penetrated the system, broke all security barriers, went into the examination hall and assisted his daughter. When arrested, he claimed to be a professor and also the owner of a non-governmental organisation. He has been picked up and he is with the security operatives. We believe that in no distant time, he will be prosecuted.
“He was not able to carry out his nefarious activity. He claimed to be a professor from a university outside the country.”
Benjamin noted thaFt the outing for the UTME on Thursday was “successful and impressive,” adding that despite a few challenges in some centres, the board believed that the examination would get better.
A total of 1,855,643 candidates would be taking the UTME which would run till Monday.

reasons-students-fail-examination-despite-studying

There is need to understand the major reasons why students fail examination in spite of reading so as not to fall victim of the situation. As a student, if you fail an examination, most people including your parent, friends and loved ones do not hesitate to conclude that you have failed to study for the examination. This conclusion is in accordance with the facts based on past events and history,in fact, failure to study for an examination is the major reason for failure.

However, there are rare cases where students study for an examination and at the end fail such examination. This rare occurrence is due to the some factors which students fail to consider in the course of preparation.
Some of this factors will be considered in this article.
1. READING ONLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE EXAMINATION
This is the major reason why people read. However, it should be noted that there is no end to education. It is not about reading for examination, passing the examination and ending it like that. Your purpose of reading should be because you want to acquire knowledge. With this mindset, you’ll get to understand what you are reading better.
2. LACK OF STUDY PLAN
The importance of having a study plan should not be underestimated. It is a vital step towards an effective reading. Many student read for examination without effective planning. This attitude makes students fail to meet the requirements for the examination.
To ensure an effective study plan, the factors below should be noted:-
Set daily targets and ensure you achieve them. If due to any reason you are not able to meet the daily target, try as much as possible to sacrifice your night or other time to achieve them. Don’t leave daily target unachieved! Reading timetable should be drawn and ensure you stick to it! Spend more time on your weakness(es)
3. FAILURE TO MEET THE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
It is a common attitude of examination bodies to have a range of required knowledge from their candidates. This is usually found in the syllabus. Some students read randomly without even knowing what is expected of them by the examination body. As a result, many read below expected while others waste useful time that should have been used to cover the whole syllabus above expected on few topics. They end up knowing few questions from the little topics they have read.
To avoid falling victim of this:-
Ensure you have the official syllabus
Use the textbooks recommended by the examination body(if any)
Ensure you cover the syllabus before the commencement of the examination.
4. INEFFECTIVE READING
Reading effectively is the key to passing an examination. The question you should ask is “How do I read effectively?” Simple! You can read my article on “How to read effectively and remember everything”
5. LACK OF CONFIDENCE
Few students that read effectively fail examination due to lack of confidence. However, Confidence is only built up when you have prepared adequately for and examination. So, read effectively, confide in yourself and the story will change.
6. NEGLECTING THE POWER OF PRAYER
Every process in the life of a man is incomplete without prayer, so don’t neglect prayer while reading for an examination. Prayer is the key to success.

How To Improve Your Life

1. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
2. Don’t have negative thoughts of things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
3. Don’t over do; keep your limits.
4. Don’t take yourself so seriously; no one else does.
5. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
6. Dream more while you are awake.
7.Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need..
8. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner of his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
9. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.
10. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
11. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
12. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
13. Smile and laugh more.
14. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

WAEC 2019: 53 Students Miss Exam in Anambra

God’s Own Secondary School, Umuchu, Aguata in Anambra has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over refusal of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) to allow 53 students to complete May/June WAEC registration.
The school called on the President to urgently order WAEC to re-open their server to enable the students complete their registration to avoid 53 of them missing the 2019 examination.
The petition to the President by the school was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Awka.
The petition authored by Mr B. S. Nwankwo (SAN), counsel to the school, stated that the students paid N739, 350 to WAEC for the ongoing WAEC May/June examination.
Nwankwo alleged that WAEC server was able to upload the names and data of only 24 students before the server experienced network challenges and closed 12 am March 1, 2019, leaving out 29 other students.
According to the school, 29 other students whose money was part of the N739, 350 paid to WAEC have yet to be uploaded till date and their future is hanging.
The school, however, lamented that these innocent students had already missed their first paper (marketing) taken on April 8.
“The school principal had visited WAEC office at Awka and Lagos about five times for WAEC to resolve the matter all to no avail’’.
The school insisted that the students duly paid the actual required registration fee to WAEC before the deadline and appealed to Buhari to intervene.
“We appeal to Mr President to use his good office to order WAEC to immediately open their server for the 29 students to be duly registered for the ongoing examination which they paid for two months ago,” the school noted.
Mr E. C. Eze, Chairman, Board of Governors, God’s Own Secondary School Umuchu, Aguata told NAN that the school had been writing WAEC in the past ten years, but had never had such a problem.
Eze said the school had sent petition to the minister of education and the National Assembly adding that if urgent action was taken the students could still write other examinations slated for April 22.
When contacted, Mr Isaac Igwe, the Branch Controller, WAEC, Anambra head office, said he was aware of the problem of God’s Own Secondary School, Umuchu.
Igwe said that the issue was that the school was unable to complete the registration process before the WAEC server was closed at the expiration of the deadline for 2019 May/June registration.
“All that the school tried to explain was that the Cyber cafe contracted to upload the students’ registration data did not complete the process before the deadline.
“We told them that there is very little our office in Anambra can do to help out and had referred them to our Lagos office,” he said.
